Here's some video of the PSX GUI in action at the Sony booth at the CEATEC show in Tokyo in early October. I shot some pics of the box and the GUI too, but those are now the property of Gamespot. You can see those pics and my impressions of the PSX user experience here. (Quick 'n' dirty summary: this UI rocks! It's so sleek and easy to use that manipulating it is entertaining in and of itself. It's like the Segway of user interfaces - if the Segway had lived up to advance hype.)

Video clip download (note that these are hosted on my student account at the University of Washington. If these links don't work, you can assume that I just found out that I have a bandwidth limit there.)

  1. Choosing between movies, games, and the other options on the PSX "top level menu." Download (approx 7 megs)
  2. Using the PSX to make some minor edits to a video stored on the hard drive, showing some of the digital photos stored on the machine, and using the music player. Download (approx 33 megs)
  3. Actually, this has nothing to do with the PSX, but I thought it was cool. I grabbed a clip of a girl playing the drum game Taiko no Tatsujin in an arcade the other night. She was really good - this clip is a gas. Note that the red circles call for hitting the face of the drum, and the blue ones are rim shots. Man, I have to learn how to do a drum roll so I can play this game. Download (8 megs)
If there's sufficient demand, I can post a translation of the audio commentary in the PSX videos, but it isn't really anything that interesting - just "now she's going to try editing this video" kind of stuff.
